In this section are tools the
Student Support faculty at Rhyddings Business and Enterprise School
uses to support and increase students' spelling skills. Of course they
have a reading component as well. They form a library of resources from
which the most suitable can be chosen. Much depends on an individual
student's learning style.

Word
Wasp from Harry Cowling
The author,
Harry Cowling, says, "The Word Wasp was developed, using the
experiences of adults with literacy problems, in order to create a
structured programme for both adults and children including those
diagnosed as 'dyslexic'. "
This is a
one-to-one spelling programme which starts with the basic letter sounds.
It also improves reading.
Gamz
Swap/Fix card games
For spelling
and reading practice. My students come in at lunchtime, get the cards
out with their butties and practice their reading and spelling - without
being asked. Highly recommended.

Superspell

From

Successmaker
ILS

This is very
expensive - 10 to 20 times the cost of any of the resources already
listed. However, it does cover more areas of the curriculum than any of
the above listed resources. Read
the review here for a fuller evaluation.
