This is one of those rare pieces of software which is free (with GAMZ Player) and which works.

Simply, the program speaks text from your PC's screen. You can either select the text you want spoken, or, if no text is selected, Speak Text will speak all the text on the page.

There is a choice of "voices" and rate of speech to suit the user.

I installed it from a GAMZ CD with no problems at all. It installed cleanly and ran first time. There is a help file if you need it, but use is intuitive - just click the play button in the small window which sits on top of other windows.

A nice touch (as with much GAMZ software) is the animated speaking mouth.

I run Speak Text on a PIII 500 with no problems. It does need a reasonably specified machine to work effectively. At least a P150 with 16 Meg of RAM?
