Program evaluation

I say:

This is a fun Christmas adventure but one which demands careful reading and problem-solving. Children can explore without reading the bite-sized chunks of text which accompany the excellent graphics, but eventually they realise that it's easier if they do read!

I use this adventure in the homework club that I run as a way of encouraging reluctant readers. It's also good for boosting self-confidence and encouraging co-operative working.

And at Can$20 for the full version it's just got to be great value for money if your budget is tight. (And if your budget is really, really tight, the shareware version with its restrictions is still a good start.)

My students love it. To reach the end needs time and some students may need guidance. It can be used with all ages, but younger students will need reading assistance. Like any program of this genre it is good for collaborative working.

Try the shareware version first - but be warned you'll be hooked and buy it.

Family Games say:

"Santa's Secret Valley is a light-hearted graphical adventure with a Christmas theme. Can you rescue Santa's magic items? Entertaining puzzles, a Christmas trivia quiz, delightful music and artwork make SSV a treat for just about anyone. Ideal for kids and grown-ups to work on together!

Adults will appreciate a game that lets kids exercise their imaginations instead of their trigger fingers. Children of reading age can play on their own. Younger children can play along with an adult and develop their reading, mouse, and problem-solving skills while having fun and sharing quality time. "
