What is (was) your job title and what do (did) you do? Programmes Manager (Retired) Managing a department of engineers responsible for bidding and winning defence industry contracts; project launch and manufacturing qualification; facility launch; programming management; procurement, manufacturing and customer liaison.
How long have you been mentoring? 3 years
Qualities you think help to make a good mentor. Being patient, a good listener and being able to establish a relationship, based on truth and honesty, with the student.
What do you think you've got out of mentoring? An inner feeling of satisfaction from doing something that I enjoy.
What's the hardest part of being a mentor? Establishing a good relationship.
Do you think mentoring has been beneficial to the students you've mentored? Feedback from school suggests that they have, and I do believe that I have, seen an improvement in their attitudes, some more than others.
